Description

Toronto - Niagara Falls - New York with Caravel Travel.

Toronto is located in southeastern Canada, on the northwest shore of Lake Ontario, at the point where the Humber River flows into it. It is the capital of the federal province of Ontario and the most populous city in Canada. It is the central point of the most densely populated area of the country. About a quarter of Canadians live in the area and about one in six Canadians work within Toronto's city limits. A meeting place of different races, religions and cultures, Toronto is one of the most "multicultural" urban centers in the world - it is considered the most multi-ethnic city in the world. Several of its districts are "dominated" by a certain ethnicity: the heart of the Greek district (Greektown) beats on Danforth Street, the Indians have established their own district (Little India), the Chinese element is found in five suburbs of the city, the Italians have created Little Italy, the Portuguese, the Koreans, the Poles... Each district of Toronto is a miniature of the homeland of its inhabitants. Long before the arrival of the first European settlers, the greater Toronto area was home to indigenous Indians. The first permanent settlement took place in 1750, when the French created a fort for the needs of the fur trade. The city was the bone of contention between the French and the English and finally, in 1763, it fell to the latter, who named it York and in 1796 elected it as the capital of Upper Canada. It received the name Toronto in 1834 - according to an old local Indian dialect, the word "Toronto" means "meeting place". Since the time of the first settlement of European settlers, Toronto has been an important commercial center on the "road" connecting the Great Lakes of North America with the Atlantic ocean, the full opening of which to the passage of large ships in 1959 brought even greater commercial traffic on its port docks. Today Toronto is one of the country's most important economic, industrial and commercial centers - the financial capital of Canada. The city is also a cultural center of great interest and home to universities. With excellent spatial planning, outdoor recreation areas, diverse cultural infrastructure (theatres, concert halls, museums, galleries) and countless entertainment proposals, Toronto is an irresistible attraction for visitors. The city center is characterized by a forest of skyscrapers, while its most famous architectural monument is the 553.3-meter CN Tower, which houses an observatory and revolving restaurant. For 31 years it held the record of the tallest building in the world, but in 2007 its first place was "stolen" by the Burj Khalifa. West of the CN Tower is the famous Rogers Center (formerly known as the SkyDome), home of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team and the Toronto Argonauts football team. This stadium has a characteristic sliding roof. Also important architectural monuments of Toronto are the central railway station (Union Station), the old (1899) and the new City Hall (1965) of the city, the Cathedral of St. Michael, the Anglican church of St. James, etc. The Niagara River is 58 kilometers long and is located on the border of the United States (New York State) and Canada (Ontario Province. Its sources are in Lake Erie and its mouth in Lake Ontario. During its course it forms the majestic waterfalls of the same name , considered among the most impressive in the world. Niagara Falls consists of two large sections separated by Goat Island: Horseshoe Falls, the majority of which is on the Canadian side, and Americans Falls on the American side. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also on the American side, but separated from the others by Luna Island. The water falls from a height of 49 meters on the Canadian side and 54 meters on the American side. Niagara Falls was first reached by the French explorer La Salle in 1678 .Next to the falls, there are two cities, one Canadian and one American, both called Niagara F ols (Niagara Falls). The sight of the power and momentum of the water, the trickle of the precipitation and the play of the rainbow and the fog offer truly fascinating images. With the Hornblower/Maid of the Mist boat you can see the spectacular waterfall up close, while at night the spectacular light show is unique: hundreds of led lights scattered in different locations in the gorge, create a series of colors and together with the fireworks offer a spectacle of unimaginable beauty. The tourist area attractions at the falls include observation towers, high-rise hotels, souvenir shops, museums, water parks, casinos and theaters. Elsewhere in the city there are also golf courses, parks, historic sites and residential neighborhoods. The nearby picturesque British town of "Niagara-on-the-Lake" transports visitors to another era, sometime in the 1800s, when Newark was the capital of Upper Canada.
